Codegeist is winding down, with only one more weekend left to submit your chance at winning your share of the $45,000 in cash prizes we’re awarding to the winning entries, the two largest prizes being $15,000 each! You have until this Monday, 5/16, at 11:59pm PDT to submit your Codegeist entry! Sure, the cash prizes are a huge upside for entering the competition, but don’t forget about the free t-shirt you’ll get just for submitting, and also the chance to try two new technologies we’ve released as developer previews:

New Technology

We’re introducing two new developer previews, Speakeasy Extensions and ActiveObjects. Speakeasy is a new super easy way to extend Atlassian products. Extensions are built entirely client-side, in HTML, Javascript, CSS, etc., and they’re enabled on a per-user basis. Speakeasy is targeted at letting users personalize Atlassian products and rapidly develop plugin prototypes. ActiveObjects is an ORM that ultimately makes plugin data access and storage significantly faster and more efficient. Each of these new technologies have an associated prize category.

Cash Money Prizes and Free T-Shirts

Each participant will get a free Codegeist t-shirt just for submitting, along with a chance to win one of the below prizes:

  • Best Overall Plugin ($15k) – Whether you build an extension or a traditional plugin, this prize will go to the overall best plugin built
  • Community Prize ($15k)– This prize will go to the most voted entry assuming the entire contest collectively gets at least a total of 2,000 unique voters
  • Best Speakeasy Extension ($7.5k) – Speakeasy is a new simple, shareable extension framework we’re working on. It allows the products to be modified with nothing more than HTML, CSS, and JS. Anyone can write a Speakeasy Extension, and anyone can install one. The best new Speakeasy Extension will win this prize
  • Best use of ActiveObjects ($7.5k) – ActiveObjects is a a brand new data storage framework for plugins. It greatly improves the way plugin authors can store and access data, allowing you to do more than you ever could before. The best use of ActiveObjects will take home this prize

The best overall plugin, Speakeasy extension, and use of ActiveObjects prizes will be judged by Atlassians.

It’s not too late to get started!

The time remaining should be plenty of time to hack together an awesome Spekeasy extension or traditional OSGi plugin. I don’t know about you, but I get the most hacking done on the weekends, anyway.

If you’re a new Atlassian developer you should consider giving Speakeasy a go. Speakeasy extensions are built entirely in front-end technologies, making them easy to get started with and quick to develop. Take the 15-minute challenge and hack on a Speakeasy extension.

Use Atlassian products? Think you can make something awesome on top of them? Show us what you got.

Getting started hacking just takes a visit to codegeist.atlassian.com, which has all the information you need to learn about the contest, understand submission guidelines, get developer resources, understand judging criteria, and anything else.
