G’Day USA Honors Atlassian’s Contribution to Global Innovation
SAN FRANCISCO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Atlassian, the leading provider of collaboration software for software development teams, today announced that it is being honored with this year’s G’Day USA Excellence in Innovation Award. G’Day USA is an annual program designed to showcase Australian business capabilities in the United States. Atlassian will receive the premier Innovation award from the Honorable Kim Beazley, AC, Australian Ambassador to the U.S., at tonight’s ceremony at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, Calif.
Atlassian’s co-founders, Mike Cannon-Brookes and Scott Farquhar, started the company in Sydney, Australia in 2002, with $10,000 in seed capital from a credit card and the idea that innovators everywhere should have the best enterprise software products at the lowest price possible. Atlassian’s first product, JIRA, which streamlines software development, was an immediate success. In 10 years, Atlassian has grown to more than 17,000 customers and 440 employees worldwide with offices in Sydney, San Francisco, and Amsterdam. The firm is privately held, and has been profitable each year since its inception.

There are very, very few companies that can start with a $10,000 credit card, grow, remain profitable over the next ten years, and become a global enterprise,” said Rich Wong, partner with venture capital firm Accel Partners that invested $60 million USD in Atlassian in 2010. “Atlassian’s Australian heritage informs the company’s novel and innovative approach.”

The G’Day USA event will showcase Australia’s strengths in biotechnology/life sciences, digital economy, and energy, highlighting Australia’s innovation achievements and a number of Australia-U.S. partnerships. Approximately 250 guests from Fortune 500 companies, investment firms, government agencies, world-renowned universities, and relevant industry associations are expected to attend tonight’s awards ceremony, which serves to kick off Australia Week 2012 in the Bay area.
