It’s coming…

On November 14th, Atlassian is partnering with the Bay Area Girl Geek Dinner organization to host its first ever Bay Area Girl Geek event at our newly designed SOMA offices!

Titled “From Bat Cave to Boardroom: Mastering Change in the World of High Tech,” this exciting event will feature a special guest panel with:

  • Sarah Lacy of PandoDaily
  • Audra Eng, Atlassian’s vice president of product management
  • Catherine Norman, Atlassian’s director of corporate communications
  • Patricia Nakache of Trinity Ventures
  • Poornima Vijayashanker, founder of BizeeBee and former founding engineer of Mint.com
  • Rebecca Buckman, journalist (moderator)

Drawing on their diverse range of backgrounds and personal experiences, as well as past/present heroines (both real and fictional), our panelists will discuss tips, tricks, and anecdotes on how women can take advantage of changes happening in the high tech world. They’ll identify specific ways women have succeeded when confronted with obstacles unique to the tech industry at companies ranging in size from start ups to corporate behemoths, and offer interesting takes on how modern girl geeks can apply these lessons to their own lives.

The panelists will also touch on a broad range of related topics, including the highs and lows of being a female executive, unique assets female entrepreneurs bring to the business, and whether the gender gap is overplayed. Attendees will be invited to ask their own questions during a post-panel Q&A session.

We’re inviting 175 women in tech from around the Bay Area to participate in this networking, career-building and learning opportunity. We’ll provide a swanky dinner and ample drinks to fuel what is sure to be a night of spirited conversation. The event is free and open to any girl geek, but you must register in advance. Registration opens in early November on the Girl Geek website, so mark your calendars now as these events fill up fast (the past few have “sold out” in a matter of minutes)!

If you were a superhero…

In the meantime, take our quick survey and share what your experience has been as a woman in tech – what’s been your biggest challenge? What growth has your company experienced? How has it impacted your organization? Your career? And most importantly, are you satisfied?

Take the survey

We’ll unveil the results of our survey shortly before the event and use your feedback to help guide our panel discussion. We’ve also thrown in a few fun questions to identify which female superhero best represents your work style  – are you more of a Cat Woman or a Lara Croft? An Athena or Wonder Woman? C’mon, we know you’re curious… (smile)

Stay tuned for more updates over the coming weeks!
