The Tip of the Month, brought to you by Atlassian University, is a monthly series to help master Atlassian tools. Products are more fun to use when you know all the tricks.

Here at Atlassian we love interacting with our customers and users on Twitter. There’s never a day that goes by without us tweeting about new features, blog posts, infographics, or even providing a little customer support. That’s why we were thrilled when a recent change in the Twitter API along with some improvements in the editor made it dead easy to embed interactive tweets and streams in Confluence pages. 140 characters wasn’t quite enough to spread the good news, so we thought a blog would do.

Embed interactive tweets

It’s always been really easy to embed tweets on pages using the magic of autoconvert. Just copy a tweet’s URL and paste it into the editor. That’s it. Embedded tweets are now more visual and interactive. You can reply, retweet, or favorite without ever leaving Confluence.

Embed dynamic streams

It’s just as easy to embed a dynamic stream of tweets – user timelines, favorites, lists, and search results. It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3:

  1. Create a widget in Twitter and copy its URL from your browser’s navigation bar to your clipboard. (The URL will look something like this: https://twitter.com/settings/widgets/377470447278768128/)
  2. Insert the Widget Connector macro in a Confluence page via the editor’s ‘Insert’ menu
  3. Paste the Twitter widget’s URL into the ‘Web Site’s Widget URL’ parameter in the Macro Browser
  4. Click ‘Save’

With your widget in Confluence you can follow your important twitter streams whenever you want. It’s perfect for tracking hashtags for Marketing campaigns, or following the updates of your favorite tweeter.
