Beginning today, GreenHopper, our agile planning software, and Bonfire, our rapid bug reporting add-on, have new names. Introducing JIRA Agile and JIRA Capture. The king is dead. Long live the king!

While the names are new, the products you know and love are still the same. The rebranding is part of a larger effort to simplify our product and add-on names. After all, there were nearly two dozen brands on our software page — far too many for customers to grok at a glance.

So, we started this effort with two simple goals:

  • Make it simple for customers to understand our product list at a glance.
  • Make it easy for customers to distinguish stand-alone products from Atlassian add-ons.

A change for the better

Change is never easy, so we were very excited to see an outpouring of support for the new brand names when we announced them a couple months ago:

This is a GREAT idea. Well done. It was too confusing before as there was no association between Greenhopper in JIRA… It was called Agile. Makes a lot more sense. – Brad

I had been using GreenHopper for a long time before realizing it was the Agile add-on and wondered what on Earth people were talking about whenever GreenHopper was mentioned! Well done Atlassian, I’m with you on this one… – Paul

Some of the changes will be fairly significant, like with GreenHopper and Bonfire, but for add-ons like Team Calendars and SharePoint Connector, the adjustments are a little more subtle.

New product names and logos

Where will we see changes?

Starting today, the new brands will be rolled out with the releases of JIRA Agile 6.3, JIRA Capture 2.7, and Confluence Team Calendars 4. Updates will also be made to the following:

  • Atlassian websites
  • Atlassian Marketplace
  • Documentation (for current versions only)
  • Blogs
  • Support and jira.atlassian.com
  • Atlassian Answers
  • Atlassian University

If you’ve made it this far in the blog post (congratulations!) and still don’t know what these products are, visit our software page to learn more.
