This is a shout-out to the do-gooders. You know who you are. Tutors, mentors, grant writers, habitat restorers, care-package assemblers, and volunteer firefighters. You are the ones who don’t just care passively about your neighbors, your community, and your planet – you turn that passion into action. And this month, we want to celebrate you.

This week the Atlassian Blog will kick things off with stories about giving back that we hope will inspire you to keep fighting the good fight. But our blog can only tell so many stories. We want you to share yours, too.

Throughout October, tweet a photo of you and your team volunteering with the hashtag#TeamUp4Good to show the world all the different ways teams can make a difference. Be sure to @mention the organization you’re volunteering with, too – we’ll RT to give them some extra exposure.

If you’ve never volunteered with your team before, now is a great time to start. I’ve met enough Atlassian customers to know that this is a community of natural-born problem solvers. I see it every day in the work you do: fighting disease, exploring space, servicing micro-loans, and building the Next Big Thing.

I challenge you to team up with your colleagues and bring your skills to bear on problems that exist outside your office. Don’t wait for some directive from on high. Just get out there and be the change you seek. Who knows: you might even start a trend at your company.

When Mike and I started Atlassian, we felt pretty privileged. We were doing work we loved, and didn’t have to wear a suit – what could be better? That inspired us to pledge 1% of product, profit, equity, and employee time to charity (which, back then, was 1% of nothing).

As Atlassian has grown, it’s been our pleasure to honor that pledge. Our employees have spent over 15,000 hours volunteering, both as individuals and as teams. Their work has benefited Habitat for Humanity, Students Rising Above, local schools, and who-knows-how-many other organizations.

And we’re only 1700 people. Imagine the impact the entire Atlassian user base of 5 million could make!

Come back to the blog all week long to get inspired. You’ll see how our partners who joined the Pledge 1% movement are getting involved in their communities, and how Atlassian staff are teaming up to make a difference. And next week, tune into the livestream of the fireside chat at Atlassian Summit where we’ll have a special guest, plus a big announcement. It’s all part of our celebration of giving back.

Join #TeamUp4Good this month. Let’s share our stories and recruit a few more do-gooders. Together, we’re unstoppable.
