If you're not too familiar with wikis, you'd probably assume you just viewed a typical ol' website. If you are familiar with wikis, you might have an inkling that this is one. The truth is that this website is, indeed, a wonderful example of Confluence (our wiki) re-skinned.

Our co-founder and CEO, Scott Farquhar first brought it to our attention in a personal space blog on our company extranet (which is also powered by Confluence). Mike Cannon-Brookes, co-founder and CEO, also blogged about it on his public-facing blog, "rebelutionary". Personally, I love seeing all the different ways Confluence is re-skinned, and I can speak for many of my co-workers, too.

Here are some more examples of Confluence redesigned:
National Constitution Day
Toxipedia
Grouper
Adaptivist, another one of our great partners
SimpleCenter

We're working on putting a more complete list of creative redesigns or re-skins of Confluence on our website. If you know of any other examples, please comment on this entry. We'd love to include them!

I thought I recognised the theme being used on the Customware and National Constitution Day sites. The Customware design is certainly one of the most attractive Builder themed sites I've seen. Here's a few other sites that use our Builder theme:

http://www.springone.com
http://www.no1copywriting.com
http://www.javapolis.com

To get a super-glossy design like the Customware site, you need a good graphic designer and also good content development team. Still, a great theme design will certainly lift all content within a wiki and Builder makes implementing your own themes and custom navigation far easier :)

It's not just Confluence websites that are getting a facelift - it's really important on intranets too. We've heard from lots of clients, such as the BBC, that they loved Confluence but that many end-users found it's interface unfamiliar and a bit too "techie". By customising your wiki inline with your corporate identity you can get a much higher rate of adoption by end users because it seamlessly integrates with the rest of your intranet - not just in design terms, but also navigation.

Hi,

We've received many mails asking us more details about the site and how we can help people achieve a similar result - so we've created a page on our site that outlines the strategy that we took to develop the site to help others- http://www.customware.net/repository/display/CustomWare/About+this+Site

The main point is to realise that a website is a marketing tool and should be designed upfront and then *implemented* using a wiki. too often, techies start the other way around, the result is that most websites look like wikipedia, or other bland reference sites.

regards,

-Rob
