new home page

old home page

How do you like the new look of our home page? In my experience, home page redesigns are often very contentious processes. That said, this one was (mostly) a snap. We started out with several "lighter" redesigns, then scrapped those and went for something a little more radical.

You can't please everyone all the time, and I'm sure there are those who will hate it or at least will find lots to nitpick, but I'm really pleased with the process and outcome. Big kudos to our internal User Interface design team who like to moonlight for Marketing! Look for more changes and tweaks soon. Comments welcome.

Hi,

as a new user, I will prefer the new home page. Minimal information, straight to the point, clear page, ...

But as a developper or a Atlassian application confirmed user, I will prefer the old one. All information on one page, no need to search a link, they are (almost) all on the home page ...

The new one is more "marketing", the old one is more "dev oriented"

My $0.02

Hi,

As a person who works in a web team, I realise the time, effort and research that goes into a homepage redesign and how users often have an emotional attachment, that is not always qualifyable. On this occassion, I, strangely, find myself in this group and I don't have the same "feel good factor" as I did before.

Good comments, keep them coming! Internally, I've heard several similar themes about various components of the page; we take seriously all feedback as we work on design tweaks over the next few days and weeks.

The great big green space advertising Confluence hosted is rather over-dominant don't you think?

Removing some of the clutter was a good idea but overall the page now looks dull and doesn't convey Atlassian's energy and enthusiasm anymore.

Hmm......truth be told, I liked the old home page much more than this one. Reasons would be....

-almost no information now
-quite bland from a color perspective (you can have any color you want as long as it's a blue or green banner ;-)
-lost all the helpful links to stuff that I regularly used as a customer
-lost all the nice news excerpts that I'd regularly point people to in our organization
-aside from a bit of text feels like "big graphic plus stacks of links"

So...I won't say it's awful.....but the previous one was much, much better from a usability perspective IMHO.

Hi,
I always have trouble finding your forums and your search engine when I come to your site.. Those are usually the main two things I'm looking forward.. I'd add those to your homepage..

Damon.

I have to agree with Andrew2 and add that the old homepage was well on its way to simple, sleek and usable. Just my $0.02.

I agree with Andrew Ogilvie and Andrew Miller.
The old page: a bit messy, a way too much information, links etc on a single page. But once you find your way around it's ok.
The new page: perhaps fine for a newcomer but not too good for someone who knew where to find things on the old page.

Perhaps a compromise would be the best choice??
