Agile Project Management with JIRA
Jon Silvers, Dir. of Marketing talks about video and audioJanuary 23, 2008
A few months ago I blogged about JIRA becoming a platform for other software tools. I had mentioned several applications that had been built on top of JIRA (or maybe you'd prefer to draw a diagram showing them side by side... no matter!). One that I hadn't mentioned was from VersionOne, "the leading project planning and management tool designed specifically for agile software development."
RedMonk just created a video screencast of VersionOne's Jerry Odenwelder giving a demonstration of the VersionOne integration with JIRA. You can watch it on AtlassianTV or just click below.

More agile tools... for JIRA
Also, if you are in the mode of exploring tools for agile development and agile project management, you might also check out GreenHopper, another agile application built especially for JIRA.

Can I use this with Accurev?

Hi Mark, I believe the answer is yes, but we'll find out for you and reply here.

Mark,
From my research I believe both integrations can be used concurrently. I suspect you’ll want to tag issues in JIRA when you want them sent to VersionOne. Using this approach allows you to also assign the JIRA issue to a developer, making it easier for the developer to locate the Issue when checking in code to AccuRev. Additionally, if the JIRA issue is assigned to the developer first, and the user ids match in JIRA and VersionOne, the VersionOne integration will set the Defect owner field to the JIRA issue owner.

How do you integrate the work estimates in JIRA with Version One? We use JIRA for some project management today and are looking at Version One, but I don't see a way to maintain distributed entry (developers update work estimates and remaining work) and project managers can summarize effects. I presume I'd have to have developers go enter things directly into Version One, which seems costly.

Eric,
The VersionOne-JIRA integration makes JIRA issues available in VersionOne. The only update that occurs between the two systems is when the VersionOne defect is closed. When this happens the integration updates JIRA by either updating a custom field or advancing the workflow. The source code for the integration component is available from the VersionOne website (http://community.versionone.com/Downloads/Reference%20Implementations/Forms/DispForm.aspx?ID=33) if you wish to add more advanced synchronization.
