Confluence and JIRA --- $5, for small teams through April 24th!
April 20, 2009 10:00 PMYou heard that right. We're giving away fully functional 5 user licenses of Confluence and JIRA through April 24th for five bucks each.
Atlassian wants to help small businesses, nimble teams and startups afford enterprise class software for the price of a cup of coffee. We're calling it the Atlassian Stimulus Package. And the best part is that all proceeds from this special one-week sale will go to charity!
What's the catch?
There is absolutely no catch. If you want a 5 user license for personal or professional use, it's yours. Just buy on or before Friday April 24th.
What about when I renew in a year? Is that when I'll get sticker shock?
Nope. You'll be able to renew for $5.
Is the $5 version missing an eye or something? Will I have reduced capabilities?
No. It is a fully functional commercial license. Just like what the larger teams buy.
If you're only charging $5, why don't you just give it away?
Well, we kind of are giving it away. All the proceeds are going to be donated by the Atlassian Foundation to Room to Read, a charity dedicated to building libraries and schools for children in developing nations. We want to help Room to Read and you out. Our goal is to sell 5000 licenses, giving Room to Read $25,000, enough money to build 5 or 6 libraries. Everyone wins.
Will I get Atlassian's Legendary Support or be left to figure it out myself?
As an Atlassian customer, you have access to our legendary support service. To accommodate the high volume of customers who have signed up for this license, Atlassian support will not be able to answer questions on LDAP integration and performance tuning for the starter licenses. In addition, the starter license is only supported for standalone installations.
Where can I get my hands on this?
Visit: http://www.atlassian.com/starter to download your $5 license! It's that simple.

Man, I wish this was $10 for 10 users.
The team I just started working with is right at about 10 people, and I've been trying to think of a way to show them the benefits of JIRA and Confluence, without having to work under the 30 day trial limit or getting them to purchase it up front.
Any chance of such a deal? ;-)

The starter edition offer the same as the standard edition ?
It would have been great to add it to the comparison page. I absolutely need sub-tasks and want to know if starter edition will authorize me to use it.

Tek - the FAQ says "Atlassian is offering our most feature rich versions for this promotion." - so, LDAP and performance tuning aside, I'd be expecting the enterprise edition. A little clarity would be nice though :)

Hi Tek, Phil,
This is a "full featured" version of both JIRA and Confluence. There is absolutely no difference between these versions and the Enterprise edition -- they are one in the same.
Cheers,
Laura

Will we be able to download the source code ?
I have been using the enterprise edition at work and would love to (enhance source code &) customise my version of JIRA if i had access to the source code.

Yes, coming soon Starter license holders can access the source code.

Fantastic deal, thanks!

Hi - Great deal. Will the renewal cost still be $5 per year on the second renewal?

I wish we had a license for 15 users for $100 :)
and then, if everybody likes Jira here, we could switch to full edition. 1 month of evaluation period is not enough to understand how Jira would help us to organize our projects. we want to use it not only for bug/issue tracking, but for some basic project management and reporting as well. I know project management is not a strong side of Jira, but we could try some plugins for that. this all requires time...

I think if you really need to, you can talk with support and have them renew/extend your license for some time. They're probably aware 30 days is not very long to test out their products
