Fred's blog is on a complete Hani-mission at the moment. Apparently SCO, java.net, Apple and JavaPro have all 'pulled a Hani' in the past week. That's a lot of bile!
His definition is as follows:
What is a Hani? Its the desire to make noise in a technical debate with no facts to back up conjecture and only personal attacks to defend a technical point, ie just another name for FUD. Thus the phrase SCO Group pulled a HANI.
Sadly this definition is completely off-base. Hani's posts are full of facts. Sure, they're written in a bileous style (see the blog title?) but they're still solidly grounded in fact. I'm sure he loves the fact that his name is now a verb! I'll ask him on Tuesday in NY ;)
Unless Fred was trying to be clever? (His definition of a Hani is actually self referential - as the definition is FUD, therefore a Hani in itself - clever!)
I think, especially after I was guilty of it earlier this week, the use of the term "FUD" should be considered to have the same effect on an Internet discussion as the term "Nazi".
That is: "Discussion over, you lose."
I must admit, this blogging is very fun.
