Beware Atlassian Office Pranksters / 2006 Oct 03

Going away on holiday should be a good experience. Coming home from that holiday is never much fun, but the Atlassian SF team sometimes provide a welcome home gift - just to cheer you up that much more about being back at work.

Besides, nothing brings a team together like a few hijinks at the expense of the boss.

Now office pranks aren't anything new. We've all seen the alfalfa growing keyboard, packing beaded office and post-it noted cube photos splashed across the internet. We wanted to be different. What real pain is there in getting back to your office and popping a few hundred balloons?

After an all-hands brainstorming "brown-bag-lunch" session, many options were thrown out as undoable (hanging all the furniture from the ceiling) or impractical (dry walling up the doorway - although that was close to being done) - but one emerged as a winner.

The humble paint can.

It's cheap, quick to do and hard to remove (well, you basically just have to paint over it).

Thusly when Jeffrey (Atlassian's head honcho in the US) returned from 3 weeks in Europe, he found his office freshly painted in lovely shades of pink and green. Wouldn't Martha Stewart be proud?

The boys and girls in SF were kind enough to leave Jeffrey a project plan for his first week back though:

As they say in the classics though, revenge is a dish best served cold. And believe me, I'm sure it will be served...
