Sometimes being in the Valley can lead to having the oddest experiences.
I had meetings today up and down the Valley, including some at the Microsoft campus during their VC Summit 2007. Steve Ballmer was the keynote where from all accounts gave a very rousing keynote speech.
Imagine my surprise then when later that afternoon I duck into the Palo Alto Starbucks to "stop, revive, survive". Head straight for the restroom which is in use, wait patiently outside, door opens... and none other than Steve Ballmer brushes past me on his way out.
No entourage, no fanfare, just one of the world's most powerful CEOs getting his post-latte relief.
It's a strange world.
(If only I'd been quicker on the draw, I could have had a nice little snap for Valleywag)
The real opportunity you missed was to give him a business card and say "we're hiring!"
The reaction would be interesting. Just make sure there aren't any chairs around.
