Atlassian 5th Anniversary Celebrations / 2007 May 06

Last week my little baby Atlassian celebrated it's fifth birthday.

And what does one do to celebrate a fifth birthday? Throw a birthday party on both sides of the planet while thinking deeply about the last 260-odd weeks.

First, the parties!

San Francisco

The San Francisco office all piled into a stretched SUV (Americans!) and headed up to Sonoma for a day of wine tasting and bocce ball. By all accounts a great time was had by all but I'm still to find out who won the bocce.

Sydney

The Sydney office went with the more traditional "cocktails and cupcakes" party approach:

The party was complete with a spontaneous "founder sculling competition" (thanks Mark & Nick for springing that one - for the reader, judges declared it a draw) and our own named cocktail menu (from all opinions the "Crowd" seemed to be the tastiest).

You can also see from the photo our "2007" Atlassian t-shirt which was voted by Crazy Bob as the "coolest tech t-shirt ever made". I have to say I agree with him.

Video

The Sydney party included some brief speeches, and following in the time honoured tech tradition - a video.

YouTube unfortunately optimizes out some of the detail, but I've copied it below for those who want to get a quick glimpse of the last 5 years progress (the intro is a little slow, but it absolutely rocked in a packed party!):

The music choices won't make a lot of sense to those outside the company (a special prize to anyone who can guess correctly at the choices!), but this line bears repeating in summarising the journey of the last 5 years:

Will you defeat them, your demons, and all the non believers, the plans that they have made?

As we say down under, we'll have a crack mate.

Thank you to all the customers and employees who have carried us this far, we salute you.

To the next 5 years!

After 5 years, we're busting at the seams in our current Sydney office. We started looking around for space at the end of last year and I'm glad to say that the search has been successful (just don't mention the...

Congrats Mike.
sweet soundtrack btw- i caught MCR, Vanilla Ice, RHCP and Eurythmics - didn't recognize the "ace of spades" one. Very cool to see the evolution of Atlassian- to another 5 as successful as the first!
